Monday Motivation

Monday Motivation, New Monday, New Week, New Goals

Following on from last Mondays motivation post, this week I thought it would be a good idea to look back and assess what I accomplished over the past 7 days. Sometimes we keep going without pausing to think about what we have achieved. We strive for success in the future but don’t congratulate our achievements in the past.

I watched a ted talk last week which explained how when we fail at something we think about it for days, maybe even months depending on what it is. It really affects our mood and it takes us a while to get back on track. However when we achieve something good we have an initial excitement and a spike in our mood which is short lived. We need to focus more on our achievements to allow us to keep moving forward. Focusing on failures slows your progress.

I won’t go into detail about my achievements because everyones goals are different. There were small things I did this week that may be nothing for others  but were huge for me. Its important not to compare your success to anyone elses, we all have different needs. For some getting out of bed and leaving the house is huge, for others winning a marathon is their big success this week. They aren’t comparable because we need to each measure our own success. To win a marathon you need to get out of bed, so if getting out of bed is hard taking that step is big now. Next week going for a walk is a success. The week after a run etc.

So today, reflect on what you have done. Have you achieved any goals?   Once you have done this set yourself some tasks to complete this week. Make it small so that you can achieve it.

Hope everybody has a good week, happy Monday!

A very nice short and sweet blog post. And I totally agree with the ted talks and with you, we tend to concentrate more on our failures than our achievements. Me more so, because I’m a perfectionist at heart and I tend to be harder on myself for any slight infraction.
