How to style a camel coat

When I graduated in October this year my parents wanted to give me a present to celebrate the occasion and congratulate me on finally finishing four long years of college. My dad suggested a coat, an investment piece that I would have for years to come. After some searching I choose a long camel coat from French Connection which I bought in Willow in Galway. There’s something special about this coat, when I wear it I get an instant confidence boost and just feel good, This is how clothes should make you feel. Living in France I have noticed how confident French women are, their style is effortlessly cool and wear minimal makeup. In this coat I feel like I fit in, paired with some red lipstick I think I pass for French.

This look is quite simple with the coat being the main focus, the gold in the access fits perfectly with the camel colour, complimenting it. I would say this is a weekend outfit, the jumper could substituted by a shirt for work. Building on the basics, the coat and the jeans, the outfit can be easily transformed.

I got my coat in Octoberand haven’t been able to find it online, however here’s another option if you’re on a lower budget and just want to recreate the look. It’s from asos and is currently on sale for €53.

For a daytime casual look I would pair it with simple black skinny jeans, I love these ones from new look, I have tried River Island, Topshop and Penneys but have to say these New Look ones are my favourite they fit so well and keep their shape and are so well priced!

The coat is the focus of the outfit, but this blush pink knit jumper from Miss Guided would fit perfectly underneath, it’s a beautiful soft colour which pops just enough beneath the coat but doesn’t overpower the outfit. It’s also quite comfy and a good option if you feel like you’ve over indulged this Christmas, it’s very forgiving.

For shoes, I’m a fan of ankle boots although you could equally style this with trainers. These blank ankle boots from asos are fab, the detail on the heel is quirky and a little different without being fussy.

No outfit is complete without accessories, having seen Erika from Retro Flame rave over these Cluse watches I’ve fallen in love with them. This gold one is just beautiful. At €99 euro it’s a good option if you are looking to treat yourself but not break the bank. (Update – I got this watch as a gift for my birthday this year and love it!)

Finally this beautiful gold and marble necklace from the is just beautiful and it’s called Lily, need I say more! At €25 I’d say it’s pretty good value.

This look should brighten those dark January days and get you right through to Spring! Hoping to do more fashion posts in 2017, let me know what you think, is it something you’d like to see more of?
